Training Opportunities for 2008
Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) 10 – Hour Course The OSHA 10-Hour course provides an in depth discussion of safety standards deemed important by OSHA and the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries Department of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH). The course is based upon the OSHA 10 Hour Outreach program, but the regulations and rules will be modified to reflect DOSH’s adoption of the national standards. While OSHA standards are the basis for safety in the state, Washington is state regulated and must follow DOSH regulations. DOSH regulations must be as stringent as OSHA and must be adopted and approved within 6 months of OSHA implementing a regulation or standard. We have attempted to closely relate the materials to healthcare settings; however, much of this will apply to safety in any industry. Who Should Attend: Individual(s) in your facility who are responsible or oversee employee safety such as the chair of the employee safety committee, safety officers, and individuals who manage hospital safety programs or have responsibility for the success of employee safety programs. This includes education directors, supervisors, assistant administrators, or CEOs or any other individuals charged with employee orientation training. Requirement: The US Department of Labor (DOL) requires individuals attend the entire session (with signed records) and pass the test at the end of the program to obtain the DOL certificate. We can make no exceptions to these requirements. OSHA restricts attendance, so this course has a maximum of 45 attendees allowed. One attendee per hospital will be allotted for sign up until May 2nd. After May 2nd, available slots will be open on a first come first serve basis. This course fills up quickly. Attendees will need to make their own hotel arrangements for this course.
Patient Handling Specialist (PHS) When we began our Zero Lift Program in 2000, we did not anticipate how cutting edge our program would be for our members. Now our Patient Handling Specialist course is a very important resource in the implementation of Zero Lift Programs, also known as Safe Patient Handling Programs. We have come a long way! These courses provide specialized expertise in the techniques and technology of patient handling. The WC programs provide a certificate of attendance that should be renewed annually to ready your program to meet the constant challenges and regulations in patient handling. Who Should Attend: Individual(s) in your facility who will be charged with oversight of safe patient handling; such as the chair of your safe patient handling committee, nurses, nursing assistants, physical therapists, occupational therapists, trainers, and patient transporters, etc. Others who may find this course helpful for safe patient handling programs are CEOs, COOs, nurse executives, and directors of nursing services. This course includes both curriculum and a practicum as we partner with an equipment vendor to bring you the current technology.
Haz Mat for Healthcare Be ready for state L&I inspections! Keep employees and patients safe with this two part HazWoper First Responder program customized for hospitals. This year we have updated our training to include two additional mandatory training sections. In order to meet the required training for Part I, you will need to take this updated course. Part 2 is training at your site and includes a facility hazard assessment and Trust recommended plan review, plus a review of internal and external resources. Once Part I (the class) is completed and Part II (facility hazard assessment) is completed with same attendee(s) from the course, the attendee(s) will be OSHA Certified as a First Responder/Operations. Who Should Attend: Individual(s) in your facility who will be first responders such as facility managers, chairs of hazardous materials and waste sub-committee, house supervisors, emergency department managers, or any others who have responsibility for Haz Mat and Emergency Response.
