Employer Lobbying
Controlling an employer’s
unemployment costs begins with influencing changes in the law. That is why United
Claims Management is an active lobbyist and representative of its clients in
National and State unemployment compensation debates. We are actively involved
with the Association of Washington Business in the state of Washington and with
the UWC, Inc.—the major business unemployment lobbying organization in Washington
D.C.—by lobbying unemployment issues on behalf of our clients before Congress
and the US Department of Labor.
Achievements
- Consistently maintain
average benefit costs 10-20% below hospitals in State's taxable system
- Changed the way the
Employment Security Department interprets one part of the law as a result
of our victory in a lawsuit against the Department. This new interpretation
has saved Washington employers tens of millions of dollars.
- Testified on behalf
of the employer community before the Congressional Advisory Council on various
unemployment insurance issues.
- Represented employers
on the Association of Washington Business unemployment insurance committee
and testified numerous times before House and Senate committees on UI issues.
- Defeated a provision
of a bill that would have imposed approximately 8.6% surcharge on unemployment
charges of most non-profit employers.
